inquiry
my inquiry statement
My inquiry was quite the journey to figure out. It took a long time before I understood what I wanted to say through my art. At first, I was drawn to the macabre and darker themes, so I made a list of ideas that fit within that category. However, I struggled to turn those ideas into something I could paint. Eventually, my focus shifted to finding beauty in objects that are usually overlooked or considered unpleasant. I became interested in decay and how time changes things like rust, mold, and deterioration. Instead of seeing these qualities as ugly, I began to view them as honest and meaningful. Through this, my work explores how decay can hold its own quiet beauty and tell a story that perfection cannot.

I finally landed on this statement: "How can one see the beuaty in decay?"

I got inspired by mold petri dishes and their chaos of color. I thought that the bright colors were facinating and were so different from how people usually view decaying matter. Its typically seen as "gross" and "foul". My goal is to make people see the opposite and find the hidden magnifigence in mold itslef.

Some other themes that I am going to explore in the future are human decay with wrinkles and sagging skin, along with other signs of getting older. I would also like to paint other types of human decompition with things like corpses and flowers growing from the body.
